Below is a checklist that, in our experience, will increase your odds of successfully implementing innovation initiatives. You will learn that there is never an ideal moment to get started and that you will never have all the necessary components aligned at the same time.

So, recapping the tips we’ve been sharing, make sure you have these in place before getting started:

• A thorough communication plan
• Rewards, recognition, and incentives
• Constant feedback
• Make it inclusive
• It’s social, stupid!
• Gamification: Make work fun
• Get leadership’s active engagement, not just sponsorship
• Gather appropriate resources
• Don’t solve problems that you don’t have
• Be very specific in defining your innovation battles
• Implement a transparent screening process
• Define a purpose that is bigger than the business itself
